The Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park London is a permanent venue with a three to four month summer season. The resident company is the New Shakespeare Company. Each season typically consists of two Shakespeare plays, a musical and a children's show, performed in rotation by the same cast.
Established in 1932, the Open Air Theatre is the oldest fully professional, permanent outdoor theatre in Britain, with one of the largest theatre auditoriums in London. Over 120,000 people visit each year during the 15 week summer season. Although the "theatre" has just six permanent members of staff, in the summer the require nearly 100 personnel and have a turnover of around £2 million.
Famous for Shakespearean productions such as, A Midsummer Night’s Dream which remains a magical signature piece in the repertoire. Every year they also produce a musical and a children’s play and have received over twenty Olivier nominations in the past ten years.
The 2005 summer season included Twelfth Night and HMS Pinafore.
The 2006 summer season includes The Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Boyfriend, Babe, the Sheep Pig
